Introduction

Undoubtedly, distance learning in many ways, is the hottest, most contentious subject in higher education around the world. Rarely do we see any issue of higher education publications and newsletter that doesn't contain at least one write-up on the subject of distance learning or educational technology. We are attacked constantly with messages nurturing the technological revolution that is taking place on campuses across the globe.

The IISSM is soon going to usher in a new era of technology-enabled education in the country in Security & loss prevention technology. Today, there are approximately over 150 active two-way video-conferencing centres being run by various institutions but none imparting education in the field of Security & Safety Management. Emphasis is therefore, being laid on developing interactive multimedia and online learning, and adding value to the traditional distance education delivery mode with modern technology-enabled education within the framework of blended learning. As part of this endeavor, several programmes are being offered by the IISSM at various locations.

Objective

The mandate of the IISSM is to:

Provide access to Security & Safety Management to all Security/ non security Practioners related with Industrial, corporate and business houses.Offer high-quality, innovative and need-based programmes at different levels, to all those who require them; Reach out to the disadvantaged by offering programmes in all parts of the country at affordable costs and Promote, coordinate and regulate the standards of Skill development in the field of Security & Safety Management offered through open and distance learning in the country.

Challenges

The subject of quality appears all through the distance learning text and methodology of conducting. Concerns have been articulated by both non security practitioners from across the corporate establishments as well as Industrial Security practitioners in various set up on the growing need of Security awareness leading to distance learning venture being embarked on by IISSM.

Instructional modifications always confront the challenge of maintaining impact of the quality of instruction where innovations play a major role. At least, the practice of a distance learning student should be as wealthy, both rationally and affectively, as the knowledge of a student in a traditional classroom. Given the supplementary resources required to expand distance learning courses, the expectation should be an improved experience and not a destabilized substitute for the conventional classroom.

Conclusion

IISSM is an educational organization registered under the Indian Societies Act. It is devoted towards promoting professionalism among security and loss prevention Practitioners and creating all round Security & Safety awareness and consciousness amongst personnel in the related Management Cadre. The Institute conducts various customised and thematic courses covering all aspects of Industrial Security, Safety, Fire prevention & Fire fighting, Loss prevention, Security Survey & Audit, Disaster management and allied subjects at different locations in all over India as also abroad.
