To fast track justice Supreme Court of India plans to go hi-tech, online

In a major technological leap, the Supreme Court of India is in the process of setting up a Singapore-style e-court where all proceedings can be done electronically.

The apex court is also set to launch a computerised telephone service with Interactive Voice Response System

The highlights of the proposed plan are

  • litigants and advocates can know the status of their cases by dialing the case numbers.
  • Advocates registered with the e-court can from anywhere in the country file petitions electronically.
  • All such judicial documents will have "digital signatures" protected under the IT Act 2000
  • Videoconference facility to let lawyers make oral submissions or arguments even when they are out of station.
  • Under trials can record their statements in court without leaving jail.

Cops are watching you from a distance

Even if you are far away from a PCR van, police in New Delhi would be able to see whether you are wearing a seat belt or using a cell phone while driving.

Delhi traffic police will now roam around in two Qualises and use long-distance cameras to find out violators.
