The Akshardham attack in Gandhinagar is ringing alarm bells in West Bengal’s Dakshineswar temple.  The management today insured the temple, its staff and devotees against terrorist strikes, giving the United India Insurance Co. Ltd. its first annual premium of Rupees two lakhs.  The agreement says the insurance company will pay a specified amount to the temple authorities within 72 hours of an attack for starting initial restoration work.  Subsequent payments would be made after assessing the damages, which will enable the temple authorities to compensate the devotees, injured or dead.  The comprehensive insurance package also insures the temple’s assets against natural calamities and dacoity.
