Britain records highest ever murder rate in 100 years

Britain's murder rate has been to its highest level since records began 100 years ago despite government claims that they have got violent crime under control, The Sunday Times said. The overall number of murders notified to police was 885 in the year to march, up four per cent on 2001 and 20 per cent higher than 1997, the paper said.

Violence kills 1.6 m annually

Violence kills more than 1.6 million people each year, and suicide claims almost as many lives as war and homicide combined, according to a new report by the World Health Organisation which is the first comprehensive documentation of global violence.
