Report on
IISSM Kolkata Chapter Seminar
The 1-day Seminar organized by the
Kolkata Chapter on Need for Strengthening Security in Banking
Industry with special reference to Terrorism and Disaster Management
went off rather well. Among the senior participants were: Brig. H. Bhaskar,
Chief Security Advisor, Bank of India, Brig. P.N. Rao, Chief of Security,
State Bank of India and Shri A. Roy, GM, Reserve Bank of India, Kolkata.
The Seminar was inaugurated by Shri Dipak Rudra, IAS (Retd.), Ombudsman,
Reserve Bank of India, Kolkata. One minutes silence was observed
for all those killed in terror-related violence since September 11,
2001. Shri T. K. Venkataswamy, CGM, State Bank of India, Kolkata was
the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony. Shri R.K. Sinha, President
& DG, IISSM & Shri B.K. Basu, IPS (Retd.), Chairman, Kolkata
Chapter, were also present. Among the faculties / moderator were Dr.
A.K. Samata, IPS (Retd.), Dr. Shyamal Ray of Burdwan University, Shri
B. Guha, IPS (Retd.) and Shri S. Gauriar, Chief of Security, Richard
CB Ellis, Delhi.
During the course of deliberations, Shri B.K. Basu, Chapter Chairman,
threw up an idea that they were thinking to set up an Institute for
imparting training in investigation and vigilance matters relating to
banking industry, to start with. Dr. A.K. Samanta mentioned that the
West Bengal Police Commission had recently recommended empowering private
security agencies.
