How did we Fare in July

The 11/7 blasts in Mumbai, resulting in about 200 casualties was the must dastardly terrorist act in recent times. Alongside, the Maoists, reportedly in close nexus with LeT in the South, were also in full flow in some parts of India, boldly attacking police posts and what not. There were also reports of Al Qaeda claiming to have opened their shop in J&K. We have in this context shared with the readers two assessments: “Currency of Terror (Indian Express – General File) and Security in Asia (The Economist - General File), we thought many would like to glance through.

While the CIA is reported to have closed its Osama bin Laden specific cell, the FBI has claimed to have foiled a terror attack on New York’s city tunnel. Al Qaeda has come to notice for trying to infiltrate MI5 in the UK. Elsewhere there were reports of Al Qaeda having set up a TV channel of its own via the Internet.

The apprehension of a full-fledged civil war breaking out in Iraq is now turning genuine, war-like fighting between LTTE and Srilankan government is continuing, the Taliban forces have resurfaced in some parts of Afghanistan but in Nepal, with the UN likely to take charge of the Maoists’ arms, there are now chances of normalcy being restored. In between, India has signed the UN Convention on Suppression of Acts Nuclear Terrorism.

Readers can, however, relax enjoying the “Beauty of Maths”(General File), having a “Walk in Space” for only US$35 million (General File), be aware of “The Most Precise Clock,” (General File) reported in the Newsletter. In any case, please look up the story on “What is Judgment” (General File). It is so very true for all of us. And, please do not be surprised if your pet dogs also get bullet-proof jackets. Also, be careful the way you walk; your gaits can betray you. Finally, we hope you will start believing in the “Infinite Power of Positive Thinking “(General File).
