Ground Problems Faced

Expectation of clients is very high with private security personnel. They always expect every type of work should be completed in a smooth manner. A few examples of such cases are as under:

  1. In 1992 at TISCO Cement Project at Sonadih, Jharkhand, now called as Lafarz Cement, Sonadih, I was working as security officer in the same plant. A heavy storm of a minimum speed of approx 160-180 km had come and broken the heavy iron structure of the plant. About 10-15 personnel had been badly injured and 2 were spot dead. Local villagers numbering about 10 thousand came to the plant gate and were trying to enter the plant and blamed that the plant management had destroyed the dead bodies in nearby river. They were trying to man-handle the top management. At that time to protect the management our two Gunmen opened fire on crowd. After a gap of two hours when police came, they first arrested our gunmen and seized their guns. After a struggle of 4 to 5 years, it was possible to get the guns released. After that incident, no gunman was ready to open fire even when necessary.

  2. During 1997 at TISCO Cement Project at Sonadih, there used to be an SBI Branch in the campus. One night two/three thieves were able to enter the bank premises by breaking wall and windows at about 0130 hrs. At morning hours when the bank staff came and saw the situation, they were blaming security personnel for not looking after the bank properly. The bank manager was always trying to blame the inefficiency of the private security person who was then around the colony area. At the time of survey, the bank staff as well as the Tisco management had said that there no security would be required specially for the bank premises. One security person was deployed to look after an area of 35 acres (approx 180 quarters) surrounded by a 3' barbed wire fence. How one can imagine, one security person being able to look after the whole area as well as give more time on the bank building! The local management handed over the guard to the police by blaming that he had not looked after the premises properly and also suspended the unit in-charge blaming that he was inefficient in managing the team.

These are some of the cases and problems security personnel are facing these days. The expectation of management from the security personnel is very high. They want everything to protect without much investment. I do hope men in the field will benefit in knowing these details.
