Kolkata Chapter Does It Again
Living upto its high tradition, the
Kolkata Chapter of IISSM organized a highly successful on-day Seminar at Taj
Bengal Hotel on March 19, 2004. It was in association with the Confederation
of Real Estates Developppers Association of India (CREDAI), Bengal. That
itself speaks volume. This was the first such joint venture with CREDAI. It
is hoped the association thus developed will continue.
The Seminar “Suraksha – 2004” was on “Security and Fire Safety –
Trends & Technologies”. It was inaugurated by Mr. Pratim Chatterjee, the
honourable Minister for Fire Service and Emergency, Govt. of West Bengal,
who urged organizers to repeat this kind of programme on the eve of the
Durga Puja festival in West Bengal. Earlier, he had said, “We are looking
ahead and gearing up for new challenges’. Mr. B. K. Basu, Chairman, Kolkata
Chapter, in his welcome address, observed that real estate developers can
make the task of security and safety agencies by investing in built-in
preventive & detection fire safety measures.
There were as many as 160 participants joined. This included registered
participants besides a large number of observers and invitees coming from
government agencies and other related organizations. In a way, Suraksha
– 2004 was a unique event on security and safety, bringing together users,
service providers as well as equipment manufacturers, some of whom displayed
their wares for the benefit of the participants. The business session
of the Seminar was conducted in two parts – one with emphasis on fire
safety and the other focused on field security measures. The proceedings
were finally rounded up in a free open house highly interactive session.

and safety professionals had addressed the Seminar, senior functionaries
