Another
ex-Chief Justice becomes NHRC chief
New
Delhi – Feb.12 – Former Chief Justice of India, A.S. Anand, has
been appointed the Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission
in India. He succeeds
Justice J.S. Verma (Retd.). As
per the decision taken recently, at a high-level meeting presided
over by Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, retired Supreme Court
judge K.T. Thomas has also been appointed as one of the members of
the Commission. Mr.
Anand had retired as the Chief Justice of India in November, 2001.
Earlier he was unanimously elected as president of the
International Institute of Human Rights Society in 1996.

Director General of ASI, India
Mrs. Kasturi Gupta Menon,
IAS, Director General, Archaeological Survey of India has been
transferred as Development Commissioner Handlooms in the Textiles
Ministry, Govt. of India. Mrs. Gauri Chatterji, IAS, Additional Secretary in the
Culture Department, has taken over as the Director General of the
ASI since March 3, 2003.
