Corporate fraud still not a major concern in India: KPMG

New Delhi - March 17 - According to KPMG India's 2003 Fraud and Misconduct Diagnostic Survey, while 10 per cent of respondents claim to have fallen prey to corporate espionage, a significant majority of 72 per cent said that they had not. While only half the companies surveyed have a conflict of interest policy, 72 percent do not require their employees to sign a declaration to this effect. According to KPMG International global managing partner (forensic) Norman D. Inkster, the focus of this year's survey had been on prevention and the respondents' perceptions of how they currently manage fraud risk in their organizations. The survey covered chief executive officers or other senior management of 196 organisations. Nearly half of the respondents feel that an improvement is needed in the documentation and communication of fraud and ethics policies and principles in their organizations.

Bandit queens rule the roost in Chambal

Lucknow - Dacoit gangs are once again thriving in the ravines of Chambal in UP and Madhya Pradesh. But this time, women seem to be catching up with men. Gangs of women dacoits don't show much interest in loots and dacoities but prefer kidnappings, said an official of the home department. Out of 30-32 gangs of dacoits active in the state, 10-12 are led by women. The MP and UP governments have declared a reward of Rs.70,000/- and Rs.20,000/- on the heads of Kiran alias Lovely Pandey of Etawah and her new friend Rajjan Gujjar. Though these women were members of the well known dacoit gangs, the desire to carve a niche for them and forge ahead of men encouraged them to move away form their mentors.
