| Centre creates
94 more posts of high court judges New Delhi - October 30, 2003 - The Centre on Thursday created 94 more posts of Judges in High Courts. Law Minister Arun Jaitley said despite several reminders to fill up the existing 163 vacancies, the Centre had received only 63 recommendations so far. The number of judges in the Calcutta, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab and Haryana High Courts has been increased by 13 each. The Patna High Court will have 12 more judges, while the Kerala and Orissa High Courts will have 11 more judges each. Delhi will have three additional judges. The number of judges in the Gauhati High Court will be increased by eight. Justifying the need to immediately fill up the vacancies, Jaitley pointed out that 33,68,621 cases are at present pending before the high courts of which 21.64,182 are more than two years old.
